Do's and Dont's: How To Prepare For A Lash Extension Appointment

Preparing for a lash extension appointment

Nothing quite compares to the feeling of having the long, luscious lashes you’ve always dreamed of.

But before you get too excited about getting your dream lashes, you need to do one important thing: get ready for your lash appointment.

Prepping for your lash extension appointment is critical to getting the best results. Here are a few do's and dont's before your lash appointment.

Do's

Do Your Research

Before scheduling, investigate salons and lash artists. Check out their websites or social media pages for reviews and photos of the work they've done in the past. Doing your research will help you find an experienced and trustworthy lash artist.

Come with a Clean Face and Lashes

Come with a Clean Face and Lashes
A common question we get from clients is this: "Can I wash my face before a lash appointment?" The answer is YES!

Your face and lashes must be completely clean before getting lash extensions.

Any residue or oils left behind can interfere with the adhesive’s ability to stick properly. So wash your face thoroughly before your appointment and avoid applying makeup or moisturizer around the eye area. Any oil or makeup in your eye area can impact lash retention.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

You will be lying down for up to two hours while getting your lash extensions, so wearing comfortable clothing is important. Also, don't wear any tight clothes or jewelleries around your face or neck that might get in the way during lash application.

Arrive Early

You should arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time to fill out paperwork and ask any questions you may have regarding the procedure.

Don'ts:

Drink Coffee

If you have a lash appointment, avoid drinking coffee or any stimulants at least four hours before your schedule. Caffeine can cause your eyes to be twitchy, making it difficult for the technician to apply the lashes smoothly. Plus, caffeine may prevent you from relaxing during the session.

Wear Mascara

Before your appointment, make sure you don't have any mascara on your lashes. Lash technicians need to apply the extensions onto clean and oil-free eyelashes, so make sure you remove all traces of mascara before arriving.

Wear Contacts

Wearing contact lenses during the lash application is not recommended. This can cause discomfort or irritation when fumes from the adhesive come into contact with your eyes. If you are wearing contact lenses, please make sure to remove them before getting your lash extensions applied.

Get a Lash Lift or Curl Your Lashes

Your lash technician needs to see the natural shape of your lashes to determine the best lash extensions for your eyes. If you curl your eyelashes or get a lash lift before your appointment, it will be hard for them to see how they naturally look.

Remember, getting lash extensions is an investment.

Following these tips, especially if you're getting lash extensions for the first time, can help ensure you get the best experience possible.

If you’re still unsure how to prepare for a lash extension appointment, speak with your technician beforehand to ask questions or voice any concerns. They may have specific do's and don'ts before lash appointments that they want you to follow.
